Left to right in the forefront: E.I Hunt and Tau Edwards

Mihi mai ki a E.I Hunt, the president of the Tribesmen’s Murupara Chapter, and Tau Edwards who is the president of the Murupara Mongrel Mob.

Both gangs took a united supportive role in the Communities in Unity peace haerenga (journey) yesterday. (13 November 2021)

Tribesmen members led hundreds of people from across Te Ika Whenua and outside of the rohe while members of the Mongrel Mob provided manaaki (support) by tailing the walk-in solidarity for the Murupara Medical Centre.

Supporters who took part in the haerenga mā raro (walk) left from the Murupara Shopping Centre just after 10 am yesterday from Pine Drive to Oregon Drive and on to the Murupara Medical Centre before stopping at a local Kura.

Both presidents support the staff at the Murupara Medical Centre.

E.I Hunt tells us that he wanted to show his respect for Dr Bernard Conlon as well as supporting people’s rights or as he describes their ‘tino rangatiratanga.’

“It would be sad to lose him (Dr Conlon) if he’s going to get the sack. As you can see (by the supporters of the Communities in Unity event), there is a lot of support for our doctor.
He’s only speaking out from his heart for (what’s) best for his community. And you know, good on him. If he’s going to get the sack, good on him!”
