'No non-sense, evidence based' doctors - Alicia Oliver

24 May 2022

Meet Galatea locals, Alicia Oliver who is pictured here with her three sons; nine-year-old, Aiden (next to Mum) with brothers seven-year-old Issak and 10-year-old, Kellim.

The Oliver Family is thankful for Dr Bernard Conlon and Dr Britta Noske who, Mum, Alicia describes as awesome rural family doctors.

A memory that comes to mind is her son, Issak (pictured front left), who cut his foot.

Alicia is appreciative of Dr Conlon’s no-nonsense, evidence-based approach.

“It’s refreshing. I’m grateful for how he looked after our son. Issak looked up at me and told me when he cut open his foot, ‘Dr Conlon, said I was brave when I stopped crying. He fixed my foot, Mum.’ I was very proud of Issak. And Bernard didn’t hesitate to see us even though it was the weekend. His patients always come first,” says Alicia.

She also speaks highly of Dr Britta Noske.

“Britta is the doctor who helped my husband, Shaun, find a back pain specialist who could help instead of just prescribing medication to control the pain. Britta has also helped me to make changes and helped me cope with mental health and anxiety,” she says.

Alicia says Dr Conlon and Dr Noske listen to their patients and support her and her family's decision to take a holistic form of care.

“As someone who wants to try natural remedies first, our GPs’ understood and supported my choice as well as helped inform me on available information based on what I wanted. Both are open and honest, and willing to look at supporting a holistic approach. Our communities of Te Ika Whenua come from different backgrounds, heritage, and beliefs but our doctors respect us and our needs. They understand us here. Thank you, Dr Conlon and Dr Britta, we are behind you 100 per cent,” says Alicia.
